- Procrastination: Avoid burning mental energy by focusing on perfection or choice comparisons. Do the smallest and easiest thing to get you started. For example, do not read a book (perfection). Just read one paragraph (smallest) or maybe even two pages (easiest).
- Distraction: When something is boring or overly challenging, we are looking and hoping for a distraction. When something is complicated or unclear, we are willing to drift to other more manageable tasks. We never get distracted from a Netflix binge! Why is that? It is easy and fun. Try to simplify (more manageable) and gamify your task (fun), which can get you in a flow state. Do the most challenging thing first when you have the most energy and most minor distractions. For example, first thing in the morning, break down a workflow and code a module in 25 minutes.
- Burnout: This is rarer than the previous two, but you can overwork and slow your productivity if you often get in the state of flow. Get Physically energized, emotionally connected or Spiritually aligned to regain Mental focus.
