Many people want predictive analytic but no crystal ball is better than the one for the present situation. I was driving down the freeway and google maps told to get off now and I will save 6 minutes. I did not see the traffic ahead (at the current moment). I was directed down a service road and watched in amazement that the traffic was running in parallel. The application then steered me back on route just after the traffic jam.
Information needs to be server up just in time and in the appropriate chunks so that the right learning can take place and associated actions be executed upon.
Here the are the highlights of the process. See my problem solving design pattern
- Alert to come off the freeway
- Analysis of traffic ahead in the map
- list of new paths and benefits of Decision in minutes saved
- Clear Action to get off Highway using particular exits
Could we predict this a week ahead? NO.
Information needs to be server up just in time and in the appropriate chunks so that the right learning can take place and associated actions be executed upon. We are certainly not caught up in the analysis which is time consuming and prevents good decisions and progress to action. Well done team google maps.
