  3. Dashboards

Edge 1-2 (Data/ Model <-> Metrics)

This edge’s primary design considerations are Speed, Performance, and Scalability. What is available? Speed and cost to acquire new data vs. the benefits to the business.

Edge 2-3 (Metrics <-> Dashboards)

This edge’s primary design considerations are Usability, Stability, and Security (what is most important per person to show? how is the user experience via navigation? Are the visuals helpful using dashboard design patterns? is it securely distributed? who needs to see what?)

Edge 1-3 (Data/ Model<-> Dashboards)

This edge’s primary design considerations are your Talent pool and Costs. Can we build what we are designing for the time, money, and people we have allocated?

Focusing on Usability (Edge 2-3: Metrics <-> Dashboards)

Involve end-users in the design process

Create current status in context to show trending direction and score compared to the desired goal.

Create bite-size data for easy consumption and clarity. What is important is knowing what is important. Focus on that.

Provide commentary as much as can be automated and suggest Recommendations for actions.

For crucial dashboards, you may want to audit them every six months to ensure they stay aligned and relevant.
